|
In April 1968 Dr. George A. Scheele posed in this picture with his father, George A. Scheele, Jr., and his grandfather, George Augustus Scheele, Sr. , in front of his grandfather's house at 2807 Q Street in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. George A. Scheele, Sr., was born in 1876, one hundred years after America won its independence. He developed Scheele's Market as a "favorite" corner grocery store in Georgetown during the first half of the 20th century and later served as Chairman of the Georgetown Savings and Loan Association and Honorary Mayor of Georgetown. The senior Mr. Scheele would die in 1970, two years after this picture was taken. George A. Scheele, Jr., would manage Scheele's Market from 1950 until his retirement in 1982. George III, who received his M.D. degree in 1965 from Johns Hopkins Medical school, would complete his medical residency in San Francisco and move to New York City to conduct basic research in Biology and Medicine at the Rockefeller University, working with two Nobel teams; achieve the rank of Professor at the Rockefeller University, the Yale School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School; and later found five biotechnology companies. |
