While serving on the navy crew of the USS LST-510 during WWI,I Louis Scheele & Lee Berry dove overboard to untangle a mine from the ship's anchor, that threatened to blow up the ship. They were successful in their mission and said that the three times the mine clanked against the ship's bow before it was severed took more out of them than "all the enemy air-raids, minefields and shell fire from shore batteries on D-day put together." |
